Amiyobhusan Majumder was an Indian novelist, short-story writer, essayist, and playwright, born in Cooch Behar in 1918. He received the Bankim and Academy Awards for his novel "Rajnagar" and was honoured with the Sharat Padak from Calcutta University, as well as a D.Litt from both Kalyani and North Bengal University. Other notable novels by Majumder include "Gar Shrikhanda," "Mahiskurar Upokotha," "Halang Mansai Kotha," "Friday Island," "Madhu Sadhukha," "Nirbas O Aranya Rodon". In addition to his literary contributions, Majumder was also a painter. He passed away on July 8, 2001, at the age of 83 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
