The Asiatic Soiety

The Asiatic Society, established on 15 January 1784 by Sir William Jones in Kolkata, is a premier institution preserving rare manuscripts, books, and Indian knowledge systems under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It holds the prestige of being the oldest surviving publishing house in the country, known worldwide for its publications of high academic standard. Publishing across history, archaeology, philology, and Oriental studies, this legacy began in 1788 with the launch of Asiatic Researches.

Among its notable titles is Aspects of Manuscriptology, a volume of twelve scholarly articles covering many aspects of manuscript studies in India and abroad.
